President Aliyev establishes commission to investigate Aktau plane crash
In response to the tragic crash of Azerbaijan Airlines' Embraer-190 aircraft, President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order to establish a state commission tasked with investigating the cause of the accident.
The commission, which will take immediate action, is expected to thoroughly examine the events surrounding the crash of flight J2-8243, which occurred near Aktau on December 25.
According to a report on the official website of the President of Azerbaijan, the commission will focus on investigating the causes of the crash and promptly report its findings to the President, per Caliber.Az.
In addition, the commission is directed to provide appropriate assistance to the families of those killed and injured in the crash, resolve issues concerning foreign nationals involved, and keep the public informed about its progress.

On December 25, the Embraer-190 aircraft, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau while attempting an emergency landing. A total of 67 people were on board, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members. According to AZAL's press service, the passengers included 37 from Azerbaijan, 16 from Russia, 6 from Kazakhstan, and 3 from Kyrgyzstan.
In light of the devastating crash, President Ilham Aliyev, who had been attending an informal CIS summit in Russia, made the decision to return to Baku to oversee the response efforts. He expressed his deep condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and committed to offering full support to the survivors.
Following the President's directive, a high-level delegation has been dispatched to Aktau to investigate the crash and provide assistance to those impacted. The delegation includes the Minister of Digital Development and Transport, the Minister of Emergency Situations, the Deputy Prosecutor General, the Deputy Minister of Health, the Deputy Director of the State Civil Aviation Agency, and the Vice President of AZAL.
As a mark of respect for the victims, President Aliyev declared December 26 a national day of mourning in Azerbaijan.
