President Biden blames Russia for increasing refugee crisis
US President Joe Biden said due to the military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the world is experiencing a record increase in the number of refugees.
“As a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine we recently reached a grim milestone: According to the UN Refugee Agency, more than 100 million people are now forcibly displaced, more than at any other time in history,” he said in a statement dedicated to the World Refugee Day on June 20, Caliber.Az reports, citing the White House press service.
Earlier it was reported that the UN's initial estimate that 4 million Ukrainians would become refugees as a result of a Russian special operation turned out to be incorrect, while assumptions about the largest refugee crisis in a century were confirmed.
Four months after the start of the Russian special operation on the territory of Ukraine, various aid agencies and volunteer organizations working with Ukrainians say that in the current conditions the crisis could last for years.
In Germany, which has received about 725 thousand Ukrainians to date, there is already a shortage of social and cheap housing in large cities.
