Media: Israel informs US ahead of strike on Hamas in Qatar Doha condemns attack

09 September 2025 18:05

An Israeli official said Tel Aviv had informed Washington of its strike against Hamas targets in Qatar and received full backing from the United States.

Qatar has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly” assault on residential compounds housing members of Hamas’s political bureau in the capital, Doha, Caliber.Az reports, citing Al Arabiya.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry said the strike constituted a “criminal assault” and a serious violation of international law, posing a grave threat to the safety of citizens and residents.

Security forces, civil defence and other relevant authorities were immediately mobilised to manage the incident and protect those in affected areas.

Doha, which maintains diplomatic relations with both Israel and the US and has acted as a mediator between Israel and Hamas, said it is investigating the incident at the highest level and will provide further details once available.

Earlier, the Israeli military carried out a “precise strike” targeting senior Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar.

Witnesses reported multiple explosions and smoke rising over the Katara District. Israeli media said the attack aimed at top Hamas figures, including Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya.

Al Jazeera, citing a Hamas source, said the strike targeted members involved in Gaza ceasefire negotiations. An Israeli official later confirmed the operation.

Preliminary reports indicate that Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’s chief Negotiator, was killed in the explosion.
