President: Moldova not to allow anyone to turn Transnistria into new conflict site

Moldovan President Maia Sandu reaffirmed that she would make every attempt possible to prevent Transnistria from turning into a battlefield.

“We did not allow hotheads to turn Transnistria into an arena of a new conflict. We will continue to make efforts to preserve peace in the country. The Moldovan authorities are doing everything to prevent the aggravation of the situation on the Dniester,” Sandu said, BNN reports.

Transnistria is an unrecognised enclave on Moldova’s eastern border with Ukraine and has been a matter of discussion recently.

Earlier, former Moldovan President Igor Dodon said in a statement that Ukraine could attack the unrecognized state of Transnistria under consent from President Sandu.
