President views new water reservoir project in Azerbaijan's Lachin
On June 26, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev got acquainted with the project of the Hakarichay reservoir in liberated Lachin District.
The chairman of the Reclamation and Water Management of Azerbaijan company, Zaur Mikayilov, informed the head of state about the project, Azertag reports.
It was noted that the liberated territories are very rich in both natural resources, biodiversity, abundance of forests, and water resources. These territories account for about 20 per cent of the water resources formed in Azerbaijan. The length of the Hakari River, originating in Lachin District, is 113 kilometres, and the average annual water consumption is about 10.7 cubic metres per second.
Having built a reservoir with a capacity of about 90 million cubic meters in Hakari, it is possible to carry the local clean, genetically useful water along the 254-kilometre trunk road to Sabirabad. Relevant studies have already been conducted in this area. A feasibility study of the project is currently being prepared.
It was reported that the Hakarichay reservoir is intended for collecting drinking water. With the construction of pumping stations on the highway, it is planned to provide water to seven districts located in a relatively high geographical area. As a result of the commissioning of the project, it will be possible to provide drinking water to about 3 million people.
