Prof Nersisyan: Unlike West, region doesn't need Pashinyan's Crossroads of Peace

25 November 2023 14:46

Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ashot Nersisyan has commented on the Armenian PM's project "Crossroads of Peace" in his interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station.

"Look realistically at the situation in the case of 'Crossroads of Peace'. Does Azerbaijan agree or not? Hikmet Hajiyev (Presidential aide) said that this crossroads is a utopia. They are not inclined to it," he said, according to Caliber.Az.

"In general, this is a very good idea. However, look at how feasible it is. Azerbaijan says that since you are not giving me a road - a corridor through Zangezur, I am already building a road with Iran bypassing Zangezur, which connects Nakhchivan and the western regions of Azerbaijan.

Also, the Crossroads of Peace project is not beneficial for Georgia at all, because tomorrow Georgia will be left out to some extent as a transit country.

I am not an economist, of course, but this is really true, Georgia will remain on the sidelines for 90%.

The third factor is the Russians. They say that we will control the roads in Zangezur if that is the case. And that is beyond doubt.

What remains in this case is that the West is pushing us to do this. They say it's a very good idea, we welcome it. However, why is the West doing this? Because the West's pain is Russia and Iran. Because if the Crossroads of Peace starts working, then they can push Russia out of here. That is what we are being supported and pushed for, but in practice, I think it is impossible and I don't believe that this 'Peace Crossroads' will happen," the professor said.
