Putin and Sultan of Oman to hold talks around Iranian dossier, Kremlin says
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq Al Said will discuss, among other topics, Iran's nuclear program during their talks on April 22, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
“Regional affairs will definitely be discussed, of course,” Peskov said in response to a question about whether the Iranian dossier would be part of the talks, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The second round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks took place on April 19, 2025, in Rome, following an initial meeting in Oman a week earlier. The discussions were mediated by Oman and led by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Both sides described the talks as "constructive" and agreed to continue negotiations.
Key issues included Iran's uranium enrichment program, which the U.S. seeks to dismantle, while Iran insists on maintaining for peaceful purposes. The parties agreed to commence expert-level discussions in Oman on April 23, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for April 26.
These talks occur amid heightened tensions, with President Trump issuing a 60-day ultimatum for substantial progress or potential military action. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has expressed cautious optimism, while Israel has not ruled out a military strike
The third round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Oman. These indirect negotiations, mediated by Oman, aim to revive the 2015 nuclear agreement, which the U.S. exited in 2018. The discussions focus on limiting Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for lifting U.S. sanctions.
