Putin announces preparations for landmark treaty signing with Iran
Russia and Iran are finalizing plans for a signing ceremony to formalize their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed this development during a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"We are currently working on elevating our relations to a comprehensive cooperation agreement, with plans for the signing ceremony underway," Putin stated.
The Kremlin earlier reported that Putin and Pezeshkian discussed various aspects of Russian-Iranian cooperation, building on the agreements reached during their October meeting in Kazan. On October 23, at the BRICS summit, Pezeshkian expressed optimism about signing the partnership agreement "at the first opportunity."
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty aims to mark a transformative milestone in the growing relationship between Russia and Iran, which has seen unprecedented strengthening in recent years.
The treaty is expected to cover a broad range of bilateral collaboration, including defence, energy, transport, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology. This ambitious agreement builds upon the 2001 Treaty on the Basics of Relations and Principles of Cooperation between Russia and Iran, signalling a significant upgrade in their partnership.
Officials from both nations have emphasized that the treaty will open new horizons for collaboration, reinforcing ties in critical sectors and paving the way for deeper mutual engagement.
As anticipation grows, the upcoming signing ceremony is set to formalize what many view as a historic shift in Russian-Iranian relations.
