Putin declines to comment on Trump, emphasizes citizens should judge leaders
In an interview with India Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his long-standing principle of refraining from evaluating the actions of other world leaders, including US President Donald Trump.
Addressing a question on the matter, Putin emphasized that judgments regarding political leaders are the prerogative of their citizens through the democratic process.
“I never judge my colleagues. These assessments should be made by citizens voting for their leader in elections,” Putin stated, underscoring his position that international leaders should not publicly evaluate one another.
Russian President is in India on a two-day state visit, the highest level of diplomatic protocol, which includes a series of official and ceremonial events.
President Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have today held an informal meeting at Modi’s official residence.
The leaders also shared an informal lunch as part of their engagement.
During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with senior Indian officials, lay a wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial, and participate in the Russia-India Business Forum.
