Putin's press chief rejects EU sanctions as ineffective attempts
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov believes the European Union (EU) is wrong to assume that continued sanctions will influence Russia’s position, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"The European Union and several member states are taking an increasingly hostile stance toward Russia, mistakenly thinking that such pressure will change the Russian Federation's position," Peskov said during a briefing, commenting on reports of Europe's plans to accelerate its transition away from Russian energy sources and the imminent introduction of a 19th sanctions package, which will target cryptocurrencies, banks, and energy sector.
Peskov emphasised that Russia is defending its national interests and, “of course, is not subject to the influence of these sanctions.”
"And the last three years have eloquently demonstrated this, in fact, with the 18 previous packages. Well, it's not for us to judge; others will judge how effective they were," the press secretary noted.
