Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile will be placed on combat duty at the end of the current year, following successful testing.
Putin congratulated the military on the test, and said that the missile’s operational range can exceed 35,000 kilometres, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to Putin, work on strengthening Russia’s deterrence forces has been ongoing continuously since the 2000s.
Commander of Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces Sergey Karakayev presented the results to Putin via videoconference.
He made it clear that this would allow the first regiment to be placed on duty by the end of the year.
