Qatar, Azerbaijan eye potential cooperation in ecology, sustainable development
Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at Qatar's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ahmed Mohamed Al Sada, has highlighted the potential for collaboration between Qatar and Azerbaijan in the field of ecology and sustainable development.
Al Sada expressed Qatar's commitment to addressing climate change through international cooperation and sustainable solutions, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The official reaffirmed Qatar's dedication to the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" in climate finance, a stance that emphasizes the need for developed nations to take the lead in providing financial support, technology, and capacity-building for developing countries. This framework is central to Qatar's approach in addressing global climate challenges and facilitating the implementation of climate change mitigation measures.
Al Sada revealed that Qatar's participation in COP29 is part of its broader strategy to contribute actively to global climate efforts. Qatar intends to not only implement climate change mitigation measures but also strengthen its support for the development of innovative solutions aimed at tackling environmental issues.
Regarding potential cooperation between Qatar and Azerbaijan, Al Sada highlighted the opportunities in ecological and sustainable development projects. He suggested that there is significant potential for collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, resource management, and environmental protection.
When asked specifically about Qatar’s plans to invest in renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan, Al Sada stated that the decision would depend on the results of comprehensive studies and assessments of the possible cooperation. He indicated that once all aspects of the partnership are thoroughly examined, Qatar would be in a position to make a well-informed decision on investment opportunities in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector.
