Qatar hosts US envoys for talks on Iran nuclear negotiations, regional security
On June 30, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Doha to discuss the ongoing US-Iran negotiations, regional security and efforts to sustain a ceasefire in Lebanon.
According to Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks focused on developments in negotiations between the United States and Iran under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries, as well as broader diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening regional security and stability through dialogue.
The meeting also reviewed recent developments in the Middle East, with particular attention to the ceasefire in Lebanon. Both sides stressed the importance of preserving the truce and building on it in a manner that safeguards Lebanon's unity, sovereignty and stability.
Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to its mediation role, saying Doha would continue supporting all negotiation tracks arising from the MoU to help achieve a comprehensive and lasting agreement that enhances regional security, protects the interests of the region's people and contributes to international peace and security.
The US envoys expressed Washington's appreciation for Qatar's mediation efforts, carried out in partnership with Pakistan, in facilitating the negotiations. They also reiterated the United States' commitment to continuing the diplomatic process and supporting efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement.
