Relatives of killed Karabakh separatists urge authorities to transfer remains to Armenia
Relatives of Karabakh separatists, who were killed during an anti-terrorism operation in September 2023 and buried in Azerbaijan’s Khankendi district are urging Armenian authorities to consider their request for the exhumation and transfer of the remains to Armenia.
For nine months, they have been attempting to communicate their concerns to the Armenian government, but Pashinyan has not addressed their demands, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenia’s Hraparak newspaper.
"If the issue remains unresolved, the relatives of the soldiers interred in Khankendi will stage a sit-in protest near the Armenian government building," the message says.
Azerbaijan conducted an anti-terrorism operation aimed at addressing security threats in various districts, including areas affected by past conflicts in September 2023. The operation targeted groups or individuals posing terrorist threats or engaging in activities detrimental to national security. Operations of this nature are part of Azerbaijan's efforts to maintain stability and address security challenges within its borders, particularly in regions affected by historical conflicts and geopolitical tensions.
