Ruling party nominates Maduro as candidate for Venezuelan president

Venezuela’s ruling United Socialist Party has nominated incumbent President Nicolas Maduro as a presidential candidate in the election.

Venezolana de Television provided a live coverage of the party forum, which was held at Poliedro de Caracas, a 20,000-seat sports and concert hall, TASS reports.

Maduro’s candidature was previously supported by more than four million people during meetings of grassroots party organisations, local councils, and public organisations.

Maduro is running for his third office term. Venezuela’s constitution sets no limits on the number of office terms for the president and other elected officials.

The presidential election will be held on July 28, 2024.
