Russia: 445 killed, 553 injured in Kursk during August 2024 Ukrainian incursion
During the August 2024 incursion into the Kursk region by Ukrainian forces, 445 people were killed, and 553 were wounded.
Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, told TASS that Ukrainian armed units deliberately targeted civilian areas with multiple rocket launcher systems, Caliber.Az reports.
“The investigation has documented cases of deliberate attacks on civilian targets using multiple launch rocket systems, as well as specific instances of residents being killed by Ukrainian fighters. These crimes resulted in 445 deaths and 553 injuries among civilians,” he said.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the massive Ukrainian assault on the Kursk region began on August 6, 2024. Russian authorities claim that over 76,500 Ukrainian personnel were lost during the fighting.
The full clearance of the region took 264 days. On April 26, 2025, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin that the operation to liberate the Kursk region had been completed.
