Russia accuses UK of fueling instability in Ukraine
The presence of British troops in Ukraine could raise the risk of a large-scale conflict, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Zakharova told a briefing that plans by the UK to deploy forces in Ukraine would not end the conflict, but rather prolong it and heighten the risk of wider international involvement, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Her comments followed earlier remarks from UK Defence Secretary John Healey, who indicated that British forces might be sent to Ukraine after the conflict concludes.
“Contrary to Healey’s assumption, deploying British troops to Ukraine will not bring the war to an end,” Zakharova said. “It will extend the conflict and increase the chances of a major military confrontation involving far more states.”
Zakharova added that the UK is obstructing efforts to resolve the situation in Ukraine, deliberately maintaining a source of regional instability.
