Russia accuses US of seeking control over Nord Stream pipelines
Russia has accused the United States of attempting to gain control over international energy infrastructure, following reports that Washington may seek to revive the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas projects.
Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the US’s ambitions in the energy sector are clear, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Nord Stream was an international company involving foreign firms, many of which have withdrawn. Ownership of these pipelines remains with our company, Gazprom. Of course, due to the sanctions, which we consider unlawful under international law, the legal situation is complex," Peskov said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also accused the US of seeking to dominate global energy markets, citing the Russian gas pipelines as a key target.
