Russia claims strike on Nova Poshta facility in Odesa

Russia and Ukraine reported a new wave of overnight aerial attacks on July 22, with Moscow saying it intercepted hundreds of Ukrainian drones while Kyiv reported missile and drone strikes across multiple locations.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defences shot down 242 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones between 20:00 on July 21 and 08:00 on July 22 over multiple regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and the Moscow region, as well as over the Azov and Black seas.

“Air defence forces intercepted and destroyed 242 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles over the territories of the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, Novgorod, Oryol, Pskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver and Tula regions, the Moscow region, Krasnodar Territory, Stavropol Territory, as well as over the waters of the Azov and Black seas,” the ministry said.

Moscow also said its forces carried out overnight strikes on Ukrainian port infrastructure and military targets in the Odesa region.

“As a result of strikes with high-precision air-launched weapons and attack drones, two seagoing vessels in transit were hit, as well as, in the port of Odesa, port infrastructure facilities used for unloading and storing military cargo, and fuel and lubricant storage tanks intended to supply the Ukrainian armed forces. In addition, in the city of Odesa, a Nova Poshta logistics centre used for storing military cargo was hit, and in the settlement of Kovalevka, a battery of the Ukrainian Neptune coastal missile system.”

Ukrainian authorities, meanwhile, said Russia launched one Iskander-M ballistic missile, three Kh-59/69 guided missiles and 216 drones, including Shahed, Gerbera and Italmass types, as well as decoy UAVs.

According to preliminary figures, Ukrainian air defences shot down or suppressed three guided missiles and 204 drones. Officials reported confirmed strikes at 12 locations involving one Iskander-M missile and 12 drones, along with debris falling at seven sites.

“The attack continues; several Russian UAVs are in the airspace. Follow safety rules!” the Ukrainian military said.
