Russia declares ceasefire until may 10, defence ministry says
Russia has announced a ceasefire from 00:00 on May 8 until May 10, with all Russian military groups fully suspending combat operations in the conflict zone during the period, the defence ministry has stated.
It said Russian forces will halt strikes on Ukrainian military positions and on facilities linked to the defence industry deep inside Ukrainian territory, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Russia called on the Ukrainian side to follow the declared ceasefire.
It also warned that Russian forces would respond appropriately if the ceasefire is violated or if attacks are launched against populated areas.
The Defence Ministry further warned that any attempt by Ukraine to disrupt the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow could result in a “massive strike” on the centre of Kyiv.
It also advised civilians in Kyiv and foreign diplomats to leave the city in a timely manner in case of possible retaliatory action.
