Russia has announced the creation of a new operational headquarters aimed at combating Internet fraud, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko said.
The initiative is intended to identify emerging fraudulent schemes, compile effective countermeasures, and maintain a centralised database of such measures. The headquarters will also propose legislative amendments to strengthen protections for citizens against cybercriminals, acccording to Russian media.
The operational body will include representatives from key federal agencies, the Central Bank, credit organizations, digital platforms, and telecommunications operators, highlighting the government’s approach of combining public and private sector expertise.
The Russian government approved the new measures during a meeting on January 15.
Among the approved steps were amendments that would increase the liability of operators for violations of SIM card sales regulations. These amendments are expected to be submitted to lawmakers for consideration in the near future.
