Russia fines Telegram for alcohol sales ads, LGBT content

Telegram has been fined 7 million rubles for refusing to remove advertisements promoting the remote sale of alcohol and materials related to LGBT topics, a TASS correspondent reported.

The Tagansky District Court of Moscow ruled that the messaging platform was guilty of failing to comply with its obligations to monitor content on its social network and restrict access to certain categories of information.

In particular, the court found that Telegram did not take adequate measures to curb the dissemination of information about дистанционная alcohol sales and what authorities described as LGBT propaganda.
