Russia highlights advanced tech in Uzbekistan nuclear energy project
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk has said that unique Russian technologies are being used in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
He told journalists that energy is the flagship area of cooperation between the two countries, including the implementation of an integrated nuclear power plant project, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Of course, the flagship project is energy, the construction of a unique hybrid nuclear power plant: two large power units and two small power units. These are unique Russian technologies,” Overchuk noted.
The project envisages the construction of both large- and small-capacity power units on a single site, which, according to the parties, represents the first such solution in global practice.
The start of first concrete pouring for the reactor building foundation will mark the official transition of the project into the status of a nuclear power plant under construction in line with IAEA standards.
The plant will include two large-capacity power units based on VVER-1000 reactors, as well as two small RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each.
