Russia lists former bomb shelters for auction in Volgograd
Five large civil defence shelters located in federal ownership have been put up for sale in the Russian city of Volgograd.
According to the Volgograd Online portal, citing auction documentation, the seller of the facilities is the regional office of Russia’s Federal Agency for State Property Management (Rosimushchestvo).
Four of the shelters are located in the Kirovsky district of Volgograd, on the site of the former Khimprom industrial plant, while another is situated on Dovzhenko Street in the industrial zone of the Krasnoarmeysky district. Among the properties listed for sale are two numbered shelters, No. 286 and No. 402. Based on available images, none of the facilities appear to be ready for use as mass civilian shelters.
The land plots and underground structures involved range in size from a 363-square-metre plot with a 242-square-metre building to a 748-square-metre plot with a non-residential building measuring 671 square metres. The starting prices vary significantly, with the cheapest lot valued at 854,000 rubles and the most expensive at 2.1 million rubles ($24,000). It is also noted that the facilities located on the territory of the former Khimprom plant are leased through 2029.
