Russia offers evacuation route for citizens in Iran via Turkmenistan

The Russian Embassy in Ashgabat has announced an evacuation option for Russian citizens in Iran who are unable to leave the country on direct flights.

The embassy said that an overland route has been arranged through Turkmenistan, with departures only possible via the Sarakhs border crossing on the Iranian-Turkmen border, the embassy said on Telegram, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the embassy, Russian citizens seeking to use this route must submit a specific set of documents to the Russian embassy in Iran for approval in order to obtain a travel permit from Turkmen authorities.

Turkmenistan and Iran share a land border of approximately 1,100 kilometres, as well as a maritime boundary on the Caspian Sea.
