Russia reports record-scale drone attack as 777 UAVs shot down

Russian air-defence forces shot down 777 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Friday, in an attack that it said targeted regions across the country as well as the Black and Caspian seas.

The interceptions took place between 8 p.m. Moscow time on September 10 and 8 a.m. on September 11, according to the ministry.

The reported interceptions covered the Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Oryol, Kaluga, Voronezh, Tula, Ryazan, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Rostov and Samara regions. Drones were also reported shot down over Perm Krai, the Republic of Mari El and the Udmurt Republic.

The Defence Ministry also said drones were destroyed over the waters of the Black and Caspian seas.

The Rostov Region was subjected to what authorities described as a massive drone and missile attack, with more than 90 drones and missiles reportedly shot down there.

In the neighbouring Volgograd Region, the attack damaged residential buildings and left people injured, according to regional authorities.
