Russia’s 3mx introduces Mars, new era in drone surveillance tech

14 August 2025 19:07

Russian technology firm 3mx has announced the development of a new portable drone detection system, named Mars, designed to identify and track digital video transmission links and remote control systems commonly used in reconnaissance and other tactical drones.

According to Development Director of 3mx Sergey Shandobylo, the Mars detector was officially unveiled during the Unmanned Aerial Systems Forum held in Skolkovo, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He explained that the new system is an evolution of the company’s earlier Bulat design, but features upgraded firmware specifically tailored to detect digital video links and extended long-range system (ELRS) remote controls.

“Today, as part of the unmanned aerial systems forum in Skolkovo, 3mx is launching a new product — Mars, a portable omnidirectional detector of digital video links and ELRS remote controls,” said Shandobylo.

He noted that Mars is engineered to effectively detect signals from modern digital video transmission systems, such as Herelink, which are widely used not only in military reconnaissance drones but also in agricultural UAVs and drones adapted for transporting explosive devices.

“These are devices used in reconnaissance drones and other wing-type drones,” Shandobylo added. “Mars is capable of detecting signals transmitted via digital video link systems, such as Herelink transmission systems, which are also used in agricultural drones and drones carrying mines.”
