Russia's Belgorod governor requests funds for 700 border shelters
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, has asked the federal government to allocate funding for the production of 700 modular shelters, he said in a post on Telegram.
According to Gladkov, once the funding is approved, the shelters will be put into production and later installed along the region’s roughly 300-kilometre border with Ukraine.
The governor also said he plans to hold a meeting of the regional operational headquarters later on Friday, where officials will discuss additional measures aimed at protecting residents of municipalities located near the border.
Gladkov noted that the security situation in the region remains tense due to ongoing attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, particularly drone strikes.
Authorities are also planning to expand the number of protective structures in the region. Ten additional shelters are set to be built in the Grayvoron District. Another ten shelters have been financed through an off-budget fund and will be distributed among border areas once they are delivered.
The governor also pointed to continuing problems caused by damage to cellular communication towers. Since the beginning of the war, more than 700 such facilities have been restored, including 42 since the start of 2026.
