Russia’s Belgorod governor steps down, thanks Putin for support
The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced his resignation as governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, saying he had stepped down from the post.
“The decision has been made — I have left the post of governor of the Belgorod region,” Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel.
In his statement, he thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin “for the decisions that, within the framework of an extremely difficult operational situation, help us get through the challenges our region is experiencing.”
Gladkov said it would not be appropriate for him to evaluate his own performance in office.
“You should be the ones to sum up the results. One should always believe in actions, not words,” he said.
Gladkov had served as governor since 2020, when he took over the role following the departure of Yevgeny Savchenko.
