Russia’s FSB blocks mail-bomb scheme targeting military personnel
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has prevented a mass mailing of explosive devices disguised as perfume sets via Russian Post.
According to the agency’s Public Relations Centre, the devices were allegedly intended for military personnel and employees of defence enterprises.
The FSB stated that Ukrainian intelligence services recruited a 23-year-old Russian citizen, who was detained in March of the previous year in Pervouralsk in the Sverdlovsk region.
Investigators claim the suspect retrieved explosive devices disguised as perfume sets from caches in Chelyabinsk and sent them through the postal system to recipients in Moscow, Voronezh, Krasnodar region, and Saratov region.
The FSB said the parcels were intercepted and safely neutralised by security services, with a criminal case subsequently opened.
