Russian MFA: Arms sent to Ukraine become legitimate targets

All shipments of military equipment destined for Ukraine become legitimate targets for the Russian military, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said in a comment on the signing by the leaders of Canada and Ukraine of a declaration on a century-long partnership.

As part of the agreement, Canada will transfer to Ukraine interceptor missiles worth 350 million Canadian dollars ($248 million), Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Zakharova made clear that such agreements do not lead to anything good.

“Arming Ukraine only delays peace and directly involves Western countries in the conflict, making them accomplices in Ukrainian Nazi crimes. Any shipments of military equipment to Kyiv become legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces. We have warned about this repeatedly,” she stressed.

In her words, impartial commentators are already asking on social media: are Canadian taxpayers really going to have to support Ukraine for the next 100 years?

“It is difficult not to agree with the way the question is put,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added.

According to her, the logic of Ottawa, like that of Washington, should be clear to them: the longer the conflict continues, the more orders there are for the defence industry, and so on.

“But, as we know, everyone’s patience has a limit. Sooner or later, Canadians will ask why their money is being spent not on healthcare and roads, but on a war on the other side of the world,” Zakharova concluded.

On September 10, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed declarations on a century-long partnership and cooperation in defence and security in Calgary, Alberta.

The century-long partnership declaration envisages the signing of a corresponding agreement at a later date.

The second declaration provides, among other things, for joint projects and the localisation of defence production in Ukraine and Canada.
