Russia’s MFA spokesperson mocks EU's Kallas over Moscow comments

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has criticised European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas, accusing her of making statements that exceed her authority and reflect positions shaped by unnamed actors.

In an interview with the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Zakharova questioned who Kallas represents when speaking on issues related to Russia and EU diplomacy. Her remarks came after Kallas reportedly suggested on May 11 that she could serve as the European Union’s negotiator in future dialogue with Moscow.

“More and more people in the EU are asking: who is Kaja Kallas, and on whose behalf is she speaking?” Zakharova said.

She compared the situation to “The Muppet Show,” arguing that public figures may appear to speak independently while others operate behind the scenes shaping their messages.

Earlier this year, in an interview with Euronews, Kallas accused Russia of “attacking its neighbours for over a hundred years.” She also alleged that Moscow had conducted aggressive actions against numerous countries, including states in Africa.
