Russia’s Moscow Region releases public shelter maps amid security concerns

Authorities in Russia’s Moscow Region have begun publishing official maps of shelters for residents, amid growing public concerns over possible missile strikes targeting Moscow and surrounding areas.

Information on locations where people can seek protection in the event of an emergency is now available online. On July 30, the official website of the Lyubertsy urban district published an interactive map featuring hundreds of designated protective facilities.

The map covers Lyubertsy, Dzerzhinsky, Oktyabrsky, and other nearby settlements. The listed shelters include reinforced underground spaces such as basements of apartment buildings, underground parking facilities, post offices, and other structures designated for public protection.

Similar measures have been introduced in other districts. The administration of Podolsk has also published a shelter map, while similar information was previously made available by the Odintsovo district authorities.

The publication of the shelter maps coincided with comments by Denis Shtillerman, owner of Ukrainian company Fire Point, who warned that ballistic missile strikes against Moscow could begin as early as autumn after testing of a new missile system is completed.

Officials have advised residents to take essential items to shelters, including identification documents, medication, and a phone with a charger.
