Russia’s Northern Fleet holds Arctic drills near Kotelny Island VIDEO

A detachment of Russia’s Northern Fleet has conducted military exercises with a tactical group stationed on Kotelny Island in the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago, the fleet’s press office told TASS.

According to the exercise scenario, after Bastion coastal missile systems destroyed simulated enemy ships, the remaining forces landed sabotage and reconnaissance groups on one of the islands.

Servicemen practised reinforcing the security and defence of military infrastructure in Russia’s Arctic zone. Additional equipment, weapons and ammunition, as well as counter-terrorism units, were delivered to the island as part of the drills.

The crews of the patrol vessel Ivan Papanin and the large landing ship Kondopoga conducted a simulated naval engagement. They also carried out joint firing exercises against aerial targets representing drones before launching a simulated strike against a maritime target.

The crews additionally practised joint manoeuvres, defence against airborne attacks, the deployment of smoke screens, and the use of active jamming systems and electronic warfare equipment.

Under the exercise scenario, one serviceman was wounded while neutralising a simulated sabotage and reconnaissance group. He was evacuated by a Ka-29 helicopter to the Ivan Papanin, where he received medical treatment.
