Russia's Orenburg introduces emergency readiness regime

A heightened readiness regime has been introduced in Orenburg following a gas-air mixture blast, the regional government reported.

“A local heightened readiness regime has been introduced at the site of the gas-air mixture blast in Orenburg,” the government said in a statement.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, September 29, at a boiler house located on the grounds of the Table Tennis Academy. A total of 53 people were evacuated from the building.

No one was killed or injured.

The gas explosion tore off metal panels at the boiler house and damaged part of the equipment. Glazing on the first floor of a nearby building was also damaged.

The cause of the incident is being investigated.
