Russia’s Pacific fleet conducts anti-submarine drills Over Sea of Okhotsk

The crews of two Tu-142MZ long-range anti-submarine aircraft from Russia’s Pacific Fleet have conducted scheduled training flights over the Sea of Okhotsk and surrounding strait areas, the fleet’s press service said Thursday, September 24.

The exercises focused on anti-submarine warfare, including the search for simulated enemy submarines using the aircraft’s standard specialised detection equipment, Russian media reports, citing the fleet. 

“During the flights, the Tu-142MZ crews conducted reconnaissance of surface targets and search operations using standard specialised equipment to detect simulated enemy submarines,” the Pacific Fleet said.

The crews also practised flying along a designated route over terrain without visible landmarks, as well as coordinating their actions while piloting in conditions without access to ground-based radio-navigation facilities.

The Tu-142 is a long-range maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft operated by Russia, with the Tu-142MZ representing a modernised variant used by the country’s naval aviation.
