Russia’s Putin reaffirms support for Central Asia amid talks with Tajik president
Russia will continue to play a central role in maintaining peace and stability across Central Asia, President Vladimir Putin affirmed following discussions with his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rahmon.
Putin outlined Russia's commitment to the region, particularly through its military presence in Tajikistan, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He emphasized that Russia would leverage the resources and capabilities of the 201st Russian military base, stationed in Tajikistan, to support regional security efforts.
The talks between Putin and Rahmon took place on March 17, during which both leaders discussed a variety of matters pertaining to bilateral relations. Earlier, on March 15, the presidents had an informal meeting, with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko also in attendance.
Putin expressed a warm welcome to President Rahmon, mentioning that the Tajik leader was expected to attend the upcoming 80th anniversary celebrations of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War.
