Russia's Yaroslavl refinery hit again in latest strike PHOTO / VIDEO

A fire has been reported at the Slavneft–Yanos oil refinery in Yaroslavl, northeast of Moscow, following an alleged Ukrainian drone attack, according to open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysis by ASTRA.

Regional governor Mikhail Evraev said earlier that drone attacks had been recorded in Yaroslavl overnight on August 6, adding that the road out of the city towards Moscow had been temporarily closed. Eyewitness footage circulating online showed the sound of explosions and two plumes of dark smoke rising above the area.

An OSINT analyst cited by ASTRA said one of the fires had been geolocated to the Slavneft–Yanos refinery site, while a second fire in the area had not yet been identified.

The Slavneft–Yanos facility, also known as the Novo-Yaroslavl refinery, processes approximately 15 million tonnes of crude annually and ranks among the five largest refineries in Russia. It produces Euro-5 standard gasoline and diesel, aviation and jet fuels, as well as a broad range of petrochemical products including lubricants, bitumen, paraffin waxes, aromatic hydrocarbons, liquefied gases and fuel oil.

The refinery is the core refining asset of Slavneft, a vertically integrated oil company jointly controlled on a parity basis by Rosneft and Gazprom, which together hold 99.7% of its shares.

The facility has been repeatedly targeted in recent months. According to available data, fires have been reported there at least six times in 2026, including incidents on July 16, July 6, May 22, May 8, April 26 and March 28.
