Russia says air defences downed 264 Ukrainian drones in seven hours

Russia’s air defence forces intercepted and destroyed 264 Ukrainian drones during a seven-hour overnight operation, according to the Russian Defence Ministry.

In a statement released on May 8, the ministry said the drones were shot down between 00:00 and 07:00 Moscow time.

According to Russian officials, the attacks targeted multiple regions across the country. The drones were intercepted over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tula, Ulyanovsk and Yaroslavl regions, as well as Krasnodar Krai, Crimea, Tatarstan and the Moscow region.

The ministry added that Russian air defence systems were also active over the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
