Russia says it downed 151 Ukrainian drones in overnight attack
Russian air defences said they intercepted and destroyed 151 Ukrainian drones overnight in what Moscow described as a large-scale aerial attack, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The ministry said on April 10 that “on-duty air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 151 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles of aircraft-type” during the night.
It added that smaller numbers of drones were downed over Russia’s Tambov region and the Republic of Kalmykia, while nine were intercepted over the Caspian Sea. The largest concentrations were reported over the Volgograd region (57), followed by the Rostov region (48) and the Belgorod region (35).
Local reports cited by the Telegram channel SHOT said a building in southern Volgograd caught fire after debris from downed drones fell onto it. Residents reported more than 20 explosions in the city overnight.
Authorities in the Surovikinsky district of the Volgograd region also reported damage to five residential buildings. Debris from unmanned aerial vehicles was additionally found on streets in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd.
No casualties have been confirmed, according to preliminary information.
