Russia set to participate in upcoming G20 high-level meetings

Russia is preparing to participate productively in upcoming high-level G20 ministerial meetings, including the bloc’s foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for October 30-31 in Atlanta, US, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Marat Berdyev wrote on Telegram.

The diplomat said negotiations on the G20’s final documents for the current year have entered an active phase, adding that “this week, intensive coordination of key agreements within the sectoral tracks on innovation and energy is underway,” Caliber.Az reports.

“We are preparing for productive participation in the upcoming high-level ministerial meetings: August 31 — September 1 — meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors, Asheville; September 1-2 — meeting of innovation ministers, Raleigh-Durham; September 14-16 — meeting of energy ministers, Houston; September 30 — October 1 — meeting of trade ministers, Milwaukee; October 1-2 — Sherpa meeting III, Washington; October 15 — meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors, Bangkok (on the sidelines of the autumn meetings of the governing bodies of the IMF and World Bank); October 30-31 — foreign ministers’ meeting, Atlanta; December 11-12 — Sherpa meeting IV, Miami,” he listed.

The United States holds the 2026 G20 presidency and has set a narrowed agenda focused on economic growth, regulatory relief, energy security, and technological innovation, with the leaders’ summit planned for Miami in December. The foreign ministers’ meeting is scheduled for October 30–31 in Atlanta as one of several ministerial events under this presidency. 

Russia continues to treat the G20 as a key forum for engagement with Western and Global South countries after its earlier exclusion from the G8/G7. Tensions have arisen because the United States has declined to invite South Africa, a decision opposed by a majority of G20 members, including Russia, which argues that membership and consensus principles must be upheld.
