Russia signals possible review of EU diplomats’ entry rules
Russia may reconsider its notification-based entry procedure for European Union diplomats if Brussels stops what Moscow describes as discriminatory measures against Russian diplomatic and consular staff, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
“We are convinced that in any situation it is necessary to leave a chance for diplomacy and diplomats, but no one should forget that the basic principle of diplomatic relations is reciprocity. We have been speaking about this regularly and about reciprocal measures.
If EU member states and Schengen countries abandon discriminatory measures against employees of our diplomatic missions and consular institutions, we will be ready to review the application of the notification procedure,” the diplomat stated.
