Russia strongly condemns US actions in Venezuela, security chief says
Russia strongly condemns US actions in Venezuela and the seizure of the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has stated.
During a meeting with José Adelino Ornelas Ferreira, Secretary-General of Venezuela’s National Defence Council, he described the US actions as an act of aggression in which all fundamental norms of law were violated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Shoigu emphasized that Russia and Venezuela are linked by a long history of strategic partnership and productive cooperation.
“Our principled position on the situation around Venezuela is well known. We strongly condemn Washington’s actions, which carried out a gross armed invasion on January 3, during which the legitimate head of state, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife were seized, and dozens of Venezuelan and Cuban citizens were killed,” he stressed.
