Russia summons Swedish envoy, over latest drone attack on embassy UPDATED

Russia's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Swedish ambassador to Moscow to lodge a formal protest over the latest drone attack targeting the Russian Embassy in Stockholm, which occurred during the night of July 2.

As Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry, the Swedish envoy was informed of what Moscow described as the "unacceptability of the effective inaction of the Swedish authorities, including law enforcement agencies, amid the continuing deterioration of the security situation surrounding Russian diplomatic missions in the country against the backdrop of systematic drone attacks targeting them."

The ministry also called on Sweden to fully comply with its international obligations regarding the protection of diplomatic missions.

"We demanded that the Swedish side strictly fulfill its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and take comprehensive measures to prevent such incidents from recurring," the ministry said in a statement.

Russia's Foreign Ministry summoned Sweden's ambassador to Moscow for talks on July 6, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

Zakharova noted that the Swedish envoy would be reminded of Stockholm's obligations under the Vienna Convention as well as of assurances previously provided by the Swedish authorities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

"We will have to reiterate them once again," she added.

She further alleged that the Russian Embassy in Sweden and its diplomatic staff are "not merely facing a hypothetical threat, but are being subjected to deliberate drone incursions targeting the embassy's premises."

According to Zakharova, such incidents have become a recurring occurrence.
