Russia to help China surpass US in nuclear power capacity, Roastom head vows

Russia will assist China in surpassing the United States in installed nuclear power capacity, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, has said.

“China has ambitious plans for developing nuclear energy. The goal is to catch up with and surpass the US in installed capacity, which means reaching more than 100 gigawatts,” Likhachev said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He added that Russia has already helped construct four nuclear reactors in China and is building another four, enabling China to achieve this target.

Likhachev also emphasised that cooperation between the two countries in the nuclear sector could continue for a century or more.
