Russia to launch new domestic car brand Jeland in 2026

Russia is set to begin production of vehicles under a new domestic automotive brand, Jeland, in the first half of 2026, according to an announcement by AGR Holding. The brand is a joint venture between Russia’s AGR Holding and China’s Defetoo.

Jeland is the partners’ second automotive project, following the Tenet brand, whose crossover models have been produced since mid-2024 at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media. 

Details about Jeland’s market positioning, model lineup, and official launch dates have not yet been disclosed. In a statement, AGR Holding said the vehicles are being developed “with a focus on key market segments” and tailored to the preferences of Russian consumers. The company added that the cars will combine “expressive design” with “technological sophistication.”

Industry sources expect Jeland to produce localized versions of the Jaecoo J6, J7, and J8 crossover models. Jaecoo is a brand within China’s Chery Group.

Earlier on the day of the official Jeland announcement, Russia’s state news agency TASS reported that AGR Holding had resumed operations at the former General Motors plant in Shushary, near St. Petersburg, where production of Jaecoo vehicles has reportedly been established.

The launch of Jeland comes as Russia continues to rebuild its automotive industry through partnerships with Chinese manufacturers following the withdrawal of several Western carmakers from the Russian market.
