Russia to test new portable laser demining system PHOTO

28 August 2025 17:11

Russia’s first portable laser demining system is set to undergo trials at one of its military grounds, according to its developer, LazerBuzz.

The system, named Posokh (Pikestaff), is designed to clear explosives remotely without traditional detonation, Caliber.Az reports via TASS

The technology uses lasers to selectively neutralise explosives, enabling safer demining operations. It is intended for use against unexploded ordnance, thermobaric munitions, landmines, and debris from drone strikes. LazerBuzz reports that the system can engage targets within a radius of 30 to 700 meters.

The device is lightweight and compact, requiring two personnel for deployment. Operators control the system remotely via a tablet or viewfinder, aiming a tripod-mounted laser module from a safe distance.

According to LazerBuzz, setup takes less than ten minutes, and the system can be transported using light vehicles.

The company said the technology could improve the safety of sappers and humanitarian mine clearance teams, particularly in conflict zones such as Ukraine, where large numbers of mines and unexploded ordnance remain a hazard. By neutralising explosives from a distance, the system aims to reduce the risks associated with conventional detonation methods.
