Russia, Uzbekistan agree on jointly combating corruption

17 September 2026 20:28

Russia and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating corruption, with their relevant agencies signing a programme covering 2027–2028 as part of a meeting between Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan and Akmal Burkhanov, director of Uzbekistan’s Anti-Corruption Agency.

Gutsan said the programme will focus on exchanging experience in corruption prevention, using digital tools to identify corruption risks, promoting an anti-corruption culture, and advancing scientific and educational cooperation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He outlined that the programme would give bilateral cooperation a more regular, substantive and practical character.

Gutsan also proposed that the agencies agree soon on the date of their first expert event under the programme, which would focus on the use of digital technologies in combating corruption.

The Russian prosecutor general highlighted Uzbekistan’s growing contribution to the international anti-corruption agenda, noting that the country will host the 12th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption in 2027.
