Russia warns Armenia over EU’s evolving role, says bloc is “militarized”
Moscow is warning Armenia that the European Union has effectively transformed into a military-political structure, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said.
Overchuk stated that Russia has been consistently informing Yerevan about what it describes as the EU’s hostile stance toward Russia, and that these messages have been conveyed over several years, mostly in closed diplomatic formats, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He argued that the EU is no longer purely an economic integration project, but rather a bloc that has openly declared its adversarial position toward Moscow.
“We have been telling Armenia about this for many years… The European Union today is no longer the same economic integration association. Today it is a union that has effectively transformed into a military-political bloc that openly declares its hostility toward our country,” Overchuk said.
He added that Moscow continues to draw attention of its Armenian partners, “friends and allies,” to reassess their policy choices.
