Russia warns NATO against any attempt to block Kaliningrad
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has warned that any attempt by NATO member states to isolate or block Russia’s Kaliningrad region would lead to serious consequences for those involved.
Speaking in an interview with RT, Grushko dismissed the possibility of NATO “seizing Kaliningrad,” saying the alliance had “zero” chance of doing so and stressing that Russia possesses “all the necessary resources” to respond to such scenarios.
He also pointed to increased NATO military activity near Russia’s borders, particularly in Poland and the Baltic states.
“There is a huge amount of various operations and military activity there. Brigade-level forces are permanently stationed in both Poland and the Baltic states,” Grushko said.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Russia and NATO over security issues in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region.
Grushko’s comments followed recent statements by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys regarding NATO’s capabilities in the area. Russia’s Foreign Ministry had earlier criticised Budrys’ remarks, accusing Western countries of escalating tensions around Kaliningrad.
